Minnesota Premier Publications honored with seven SPJ Page One Awards

Minnesota Premier Publications received four first place commendations in the 2010 Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Page One Awards. The awards ceremony was held May 21.

Photographer Robb Long won two first place awards: in the Best News Portrait category in Southwest Journal for his "Accordion Man" Focus cover and Best Sports photo for his image of Mikku Koivu on the cover of Downtown Journal. He also took a third place for Best Feature photo for the Southwest Journal.

Minnesota Premier Publications honored with three SPJ Page One Awards

Minnesota Parent received a first place commendation in the 2009 Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Page One Awards. The awards ceremony was held May 14.

Photographer Robb Long won first place in the Best Cover Using Photography category with 50,000+ circulation for his November 2008 “Mad Money” portrait of model Hanna Stoehr cutting credit cards in a padded cell to illustrate the bind young adults put themselves into when taking on more debt than they can handle.

Minnesota Premier Publications' photographer wins Inland Press Association picture contest
October 13, 2008

MPP photographer Robb Long took first place in the Inland Press Association's Illustrative Category for Illustrative Photography for his photograph of UFC fighter Brock Lesnar featured in the August 4–17, 2008 issue issue of Downtown Journal. The contest is sponsored by the Indiana University School of Journalism.

Downtown Journal honored with SPJ Page One Awards

The Downtown Journal received two top honors in the 2008 Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Page One Awards. The awards ceremony was held June 12.

The Journal staff received second place in the in-depth news category for newspapers with a circulation under 50,000 for its I-35W bridge collapse coverage, “Caught in Chaos.”

Photographer Robb Long won first place in the feature photography category for his portrait of Peter Morton in the Dec. 10–23, 2007 edition of the Journal. The photograph ran with a profile on Morton, a downtown resident who has stared a fund to raise money for spinal cord injury research.

Southwest Journal and Downtown Journal honored with several Minnesota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper awards
January 26, 2008

The Southwest Journal and Downtown Journal, biweekly community newspapers serving neighborhoods in southwest and downtown Minneapolis, received several awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association at the its annual convention Jan. 24–25.

The Journals contest entries were among thousands entered by newspapers across the state for the 2006-2007 Better Newspaper Contest. The Southwest Journal earned an honorable mention in the general excellence category; first place in advertising excellence; first place for best use of color in advertising by designer Kristin Martin; first place for best local news story for a piece on the aftermath of the I-35W bridge collapse by Sarah....
