The Beatles: A One-Night Stand in the Heartland

In August 1965, a 17-year-old local photographer documented the Beatles’ only appearance in Minnesota. His images are the focus of The Beatles: A One-Night Stand in the Heartland, opening July 17 at the History Center. Bill Carlson took pictures of the band’s arrival at Wold Chamberlain Field, the mobs of girls waiting to greet them, their press conference and performance. This will be the first major exhibit of the images, some of which have never been published.

This admission-free, family-friendly celebration of wild rice, Native American culture and Minnesota’s fall season will be held on the grounds of the nature center at 2520 North Dale Street, Roseville, Minnesota.
The event begins with a fundraising pancake breakfast from 8-11 am. The breakfast, served up by members of the Kiwanis, features delicious wild rice sausages, wild rice pancakes and pure maple syrup. Impressive lineup announced for downtown for the 12th Annual Twin Cities Jazz Fest Saint Paul’s Mears Park June 17 - 19.
Jazz Fest kicks off on Thursday, June 17th with the return of the popular Jazz Night Out Club Crawl featuring live music in a number of downtown Saint Paul clubs. Thursday night will also feature jazz vocalist Pippi Ardennia, a Chicagoan now based in Saint Paul, on the Mears Park Main Stage (in partnership with Music in Mears) from 6 to 9 p.m.

This event is a one or two day paddling event down the Twin Cities stretch of the Mississippi River to raise funds for the Friends of the Mississippi River. Yee haw! Pull on your boots and dust off your hat! The 29th Annual Hamel Rodeo and Bull Ridin’ Bonanza stampedes into Cocoran Lions Park July 9-12. It’s bronc ridin’, bull ridin’, ropin’, steer wrestlin’, and barrel racin’ as pro rodeo cowboys and cowgirls compete for prize money and the championship belt buckle! And the best part is that all proceeds from this event go to benefit organizations in Hamel and the surrounding area!
Thursday, July 9 is Tough Enough to Wear Pink night at the rodeo. Fans and cowboys alike are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. For every ticket purchased for the Thursday night rodeo, a contribution will be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for breast cancer research.
The rodeo is held nightly at 7:30 pm.
