Do you need this? – oopdoo
|
By Ann Marie Terpstra
Most every parent knows that when a child has an ache or booboo the bandage is a miracle cure. The oopdoo was created by a Twin Cities mom to comfort and calm a child who hurts, but does not qualify for an actual bandage under the “no blood, no bandage” rule. It is a 39-inch oblong fleece wrap with a white pocket in the middle and many tiny holes on the end flaps that make the whole thing resemble a giant bandage. It can be wrapped around an ailing limb or tummy, or just snuggled into to make a kid feel better all over, and the center pocket can accommodate a hot or cold pack as needed. Just like regular adhesive bandages, oopdoos are available in a variety of colors from traditional tan to patterns and florals. My daughter’s oopdoo is called “Hug in Bloom,” which doesn’t much resemble an actual bandage but is very vibrant and pretty. For the most part it is just another blankie in her arsenal. Occasionally I have persuaded her to wrap it around her mid-section when she complained of a tummy ache and it seemed to magically help. She likes to put dolls in the pocket rather than a gel pack, but I can see real value in that feature should the need arise. The design seems simple enough that I could make one myself, but when I factor in the cost of materials and time, the $18.99-$24.99 price seems reasonable. The optional hot/cold gel pack is available for $14.99. oopdoohug.com
